About 1871 Pierre François Rodolphe DELPERDANGE
was appointed country policeman in Bastogne after being
employed as a roadman for years in the same town. He
could read and write and for this reason was frequently
asked to act as a witness when birth, marriage and death
certificates were being composed at the services of
Registry Office. So it is thanks to him that on numerous
acts written in Bastogne the name DELPERDANGE appeared
between 1850 and 1875.

Pierre François Rodolphe
lived in Bastogne, as most of his male
ancestors did and can directly be linked to
Henry HANSY, the common forefather of all
those who carry the name DELPERDANGE :

In January 1845 Pierre François Rodolphe, who was
born in Bastogne in 1818, married Marie Joseph
LAFARQUE in the same town. They had 5 children who
all were born in Bastogne:
 |
Marie Elisabeth DELPERDANGE

Paul Joseph
DELPERDANGE (1847-1915)
|

Marie Joséphine DELPERDANGE
(1855-1894) |
 |
Charles DELPERDANGE

None of the 3 daughters got married, they all died at a
relatively young age. We have found no traces yet of
possible descendants of Jean Pierre and
Charles, so it is especially Paul Joseph who
seems to have been on his own responsible for the continuation of the DELPERDANGE
name.
Paul Joseph DELPERDANGE
was born in Bastogne on February 28th 1847.
He spent his complete career with the railways where he
was successively employed as an excavation worker, a
station worker and a postal employee.

The tomb
of
Paul Joseph DELPERDANGE and Marie Françoise ACHENNE
still exists in Forrières |
About 1870 he married Marie Françoise Joséphine
ACHENNE, originating from Longchamps (Javry). They
first settled down in Bastogne where in 1871 their first
child Paul Nicolas Joseph was born. Their next
three children were born in Sainte-Marie-Chevigny :
Ida Marie Joséphine (in 1873), Théophile Joseph
(in 1875) and Marie Marthe Joséphine (in 1877).
They then settled down in Forrières, where their younger
child Victor Joseph was born (in 1884).
Paul Joseph DELPERDANGE
died in Forrières on June 4th 1915 at the age
of 68. His wife Marie Françoise Joséphine ACHENNE
died 4 years later in the same municipality on February
20th 1919
Their five children assured the presence of the
DELPERDANGE name in Forrières for one generation before
swarming about all over Belgium :
 |
The younger one, Victor Joseph DELPERDANGE
(born in 1884) married Berthe LEDOUX also
originating from Forrières. He was a carpenter. We
do not know if they had any children nor when Victor
died. His wife Berthe LEDOUX died in February
1949 in Couillet.
|
 |
We do not know how the life of Marie Marthe
Joséphine DELPERDANGE (born in 1877) nor of
Théophile Joseph DELPERDANGE (born in 1875)
went.
|
 |
Ida Marie Joséphine DELPERDANGE
(born in 1873) married Justin Joseph LEDOUX
on May 25th 1894 in Forrières. He was a
smith and died in November 1946. They lived in
Forrières where they brought up their 5 children : |
- Marthe Marie Ida LEDOUX (1895-1981)
- Joseph LEDOUX (1896-1957)
- Armand LEDOUX (1901-1959)
- Paul LEDOUX
- Marie Flore LEDOUX

The
elder son Paul Nicolas Joseph DELPERDANGE
(born in 1871) chose for a military career and ended
his career as an officer with the Belgian army. He
married Hélène Marie Pétronille VAN EEKERT
who gave him 7 children. (see
below) |
Paul Nicolas Joseph DELPERDANGE
was born in Bastogne on May 9th 1871.
Different from most of his forefathers who were farmers
or workmen or practised a trade, he took up a career as
an officer with the Belgian army. He did not come from a
wealthy family (his father was a railwayworker) and
therefore a serious problem arouse when he fell in love
with Hélène Marie Pétronille VAN EEKERT, born in Meeuwen
in the Netherlands but living in Antwerp with her
parents : as a guarantee that an officer could lead a
life adapted to his social position, the army indeed
required that a dowry should be paid at an officer’s
marriage. Neither Hélène’s family nor Paul Nicolas
Joseph’s disposed of the financial means to meet these
requirements.

Paul Nicolas
Joseph DELPERDANGE
et son épouse Hélène Marie Pétronille van EEKERT
They had no other choice than living together. In the
following years 4 children were born:
 |
Joséphine Eugénie,
who was born in Antwerp in 1898. |
 |
Paula Antoinette
who was born in Sint-Joost-ten-Node (Brussels) in
1900 |
 |
Marthe Marie
who was born in Sint-Joost-ten-Node (Brussels) in
1902 |
 |
Ida
who was born in Sint-Joost-ten-Node (Brussels) in
1903 |
For ten years they saved money to meet the requirement
of the dowry. On January 16th 1909 the day
had come : Paul Nicolas and Hélène Marie
officially married in Schaerbeek (Brussels).
Some time later Paul Nicolas was transferred to
Leopoldsburg in Belgian Limburg. There his younger 3
children were born:
 |
Anna Paula,
born in Leopoldsburg in 1909 |
 |
Théophile Joseph,
born in Leopoldsburg in 1911 |
 |
Edouard Paul,
born in Leopoldsburg in 1913 |

Hélène Marie van EEKERT and her children,
who had fled to Valkenswaard (the Netherlands) during
the first World War.
During the first World War when Paul Nicolas was
at the front, his family fled to Valkenswaard in the
Netherlands, which took no part in the conflict. They
spent 4 quiet years there until the armistice. After the
war they settled in Brussels.
Hélène Marie’s
health deteriorated, she died suddenly in tragic
circumstances on November 23rd 1923 in
Brussels<•>.
She left behind 7 children, the elder of whom then was
25, the younger 10.
Her husband Paul Nicolas who just then had been
appointed major, abandoned a new assignment in Antwerp
in order to be with his family in Brussels.
He died there on February 7th 1932, only 60
years old.
Hereafter the lives of the children of Paul Nicolas
DELPERDANGE and Hélène Marie VAN EEKERT are
summarized in some lines :
