G. DELPERDANGE street
When one walks in Bastogne, one cannot miss visiting the
road "rue Gustave DELPERDANGE," which leaves the "place
Saint-Pierre" towards the right, and after a roundabout,
passes in front of the Commercial Centre and then goes until
the ancient railway bridge.
Gustave DELPERDANGE was born at Warnach on October 1st,1911.
He was the son François DELPERDANGE (1876-1937) and
Marguerite BURNAY (-1953). In November 1934 he married
Madeleine MEIS.

During the war he exploited the quarry
"Les Roches" at Bastogne, and so possessed dynamite for
professional use. Despite the severe controls he regularly
handed over explosives to the resistance of Bastogne,
which sent these onto Brussels
In
July 1943, he was arrested by the Gestapo,
and imprisoned at the "Fort de Breendonk, where during
several months he had to do hard labour.
On February
24th, 1944 there was an
attack with explosives against a
German Military Post, causing a
lot of material damage.
In
revenge, twenty prisoners were executed at he camp of
Breendonk on February
28th, 1944. Amongst them was Gustave DELPERDANGE.
Gustave DELPERDANGE was buried at the
"Tir National" in Brussels
and he reposed there until his
transfer back to Bastogne.

After
the war, the local authorities honoured his memory in
dedicating a road to him, which is
carrying his name.
