The story of Lambert
Lambert DELPERDANGE was
born on the 1st of September
1837 <•>
in Warnach, a small village at 10 km
south of Bastogne (Belgium). He was the eighth of the
ten children of Michel DELPERDANGE and Anna Marie
KLAINES.
About 1855, his elder
brother Nicholas emigrated
to the United States with his wife Joséphine STEMPERT .
In 1872, at the age of 35
years, Lambert followed his brothers' example, and left
Belgium to start a new life as a farmer in Spring Book (Jackson
county - Eastern IOWA).
At his arrival in the
States, as had also happened to his brother some years before,
his name lost the final "e", and became DELPERDANG.
In 1877, he got
married to Margaret SCHILTZ in Dubuque. She was born in
October 1850 in Winteringen (Luxemburg), and came to DUBUQUE in
1876, after the death of her mother, accompagnied by her
brother Peter and other relatives.
After their
marriage, Lambert and Margaret moved to ELGIN (Plymouth
County) where they acquired and ran a farm.
Between 1881 and 1892,
they gave birth to 5 children :
- ANTON : born in
Oct. 1881
- JOHN NICOLAS : born in Dec. 1883
- JOHN HUBERT : born in Oct. 1886
- PETER L. : born in Feb. 1890
- KATIE W. : born in Dec. 1892
On 25 October 1878, Lambert
was naturalized and became an American citizen.
When they retired, Lambert
and Margaret moved to REMSEN, where Lambert died on October
16th 1908, at the age of 71.He was buried in the Catholic
Cemetery of REMSEN. Margaret died on November 23rd 1928.
